Why should I update my personal details?
You should update your name with companies if your name is out of date or it bothers you.
Many people find the process of updating your name with companies lengthy, difficult and time-consuming. It doesn't have to be.
To change the name a company has listed for you, you can use your 'right to rectification' for free through Rightly.
What's my right to rectification?
This applies for your name, address, gender or anything else you'd like to correct. It's your personal data after all.
Personal data is any information that can directly or indirectly identify you as you. Think address, beliefs, and financial records.
Sending a rectification request can help you make your data work for you.
- stop companies referring to you in the wrong way
- take control of your personal data
- save time by sending multiple requests at once.
How do I send a rectification request?
The easiest way to update your details is by sending a request through Rightly.
- Press 'get started' above and search for the companies you'd like to contact
- Enter your basic details so that they can identify you, including your new name
- Send your request
If you can't find the one that you want, please contact our customer support team - they'd be happy to help!
How long until a company responds to my request?
After the company has received your request, they have to reply in full within 30 days, or give a valid reason for asking for an extension. If this happens, our support team is here to help!
What if they refuse to update my details?
Don't worry, you can tell any company to correct inaccurate personal data, even if you don't know for sure whether or not they have it. They have to confirm with you what they have and that they've updated them. This is thanks again to your ‘right of rectification’ under GDPR law.
What if I’m not sure if they have my data?
You can still ask them. If they don’t have it, they have to let you know.
We’re free because our mission is to make data fairer, for everyone.
This means that our services operate on a not-for-profit basis. It also means that there are no adverts or hidden costs, and that we’ll never, ever sell your data.
